ACADEMICS
“School knowledge & activity should reinforce our need for one another; it should reconfirm our traditional compassion & impulse to share.”
- Es’kia Mphahlele, 1982

STEM CURRICULUM

Sayda Tutorial Institute has two magnet programs - CAPS and STEM educational programmes. The National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement Grades R-12 ensure that children acquire and apply knowledge and skills in ways that are meaningful to their own lives. The curriculum promotes knowledge in local contexts, while being sensitive to global imperatives.

FOUNDATION phase (STEM)

PROFESSIONALS IN THE MAKING!

Sayda Tutorial Institute embraces the framework of the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement. Our Foundation Phase (Grades R-3), STEM subjects are integrated into existing subjects like Literacy, Numeracy, and Life Skills, rather than being taught as separate, distinct subjects. This means that concepts from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are introduced and developed through these core subjects, fostering foundational skills for later STEM learning.

PROFESSIONALS IN THE MAKING!

Young minds are like newly formed galaxies. Full of energy, expansive & curious. Poised & ready to stretch out and make their mark in the universe. At Sayda Tutorial Institute, we believe that every child is full of brilliance and potential. At Sayda Primary School, they discover it for themselves.

SAYDA HIGHER PRIMARY SCHOOL (sHps)

PROFESSIONALS IN THE MAKING!

Sayda Tutorial Institute's Intermediate Phase (Grade 4-6), STEM subjects include Mathematics, and Natural Sciences and Technology, which are taught as separate subjects. These subjects are build upon the foundation laid in the Foundation Phase (Grades R-3) and prepare students for the Senior Phase.

INTERMEDIATE PHASE (STEM)

PROFESSIONALS IN THE MAKING!

Sayda Tutorial Institute embraces the framework of the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement. Without a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics from primary and secondary school, students may find themselves unprepared to train for and pursue careers in STEM fields

SENIOR PHASE

(STEM)

PROFESSIONALS IN THE MAKING!

Sayda Tutorial Institute embraces the framework of the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement. Our STEM subjects include Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Technology, and Economic Management Sciences. These subjects, along with English and Life Orientation, form the core of the curriculum. Additionally, we offer Computer Applications Technology, Information Technology, or specific engineering and science specializations.

sayda network academies

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics academy and the related magnet program share the goals of giving students the opportunity to pursue independent and collaborative research projects, as well as to work with mentors at local businesses and research organizations.

SCIENCE

SCIENCE

Students use and construct models as helpful tools for representing ideas and explanations. These tools include diagrams, drawings, physical replicas, mathematical representations, analogies, and computer simulations.

TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY

Students explicitly and implicitly engage in abstraction and modelling while solving a problem. This involves extracting common features, identifying patterns, and representing the patterns and features in graphics, diagrams, and formulas.

ENGINEERING

ENGINEERING

Students explicitly and implicitly engage in abstraction and modelling while solving a problem. This involves extracting common features, identifying patterns, and representing the patterns and features in graphics, diagrams, and formulas.

MATHS

MATHS

Mathematical modelling characterised by the use and development of mathematical structures to describe phenomenon. Mathematical modelling includes the use of representations (e.g., graphical, pictorial, symbolic) to represent and simulate phenomena.

Stem education in africa

Africa holds 19% of the world’s population aged 19-24, its STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)capabilities fall behind the rest of the world. We all know that STEM education is a driver of economic performance and thus, essential for helping growing economies compete in the global market, creating technical jobs, and improving wealth. Africa has a huge untapped potential, despite lagging behind other regions in STEM, to transform its global economy due to its unique demographic asset. It is expected that by 2035, sub-Saharan Africa will have a working population larger than the entire rest of the world combined. This is why it is critical for education in Africa to reach new levels, particularly with skills that can create and promote more STEM jobs.
